Harkins Contracting, Inc. was formed in 2009 as a new entity following the success of Harkins Concrete Construction, Inc., a concrete subcontractor started by George Harkins in 1992. As a general contractor, HCI brings the same commitment to excellence and integrity that made Harkins Concrete Construction successful. In starting HCI, the Harkins were responding to requests from key architects and repeat clients to extend the company's management and organizational skills, plus its aggressive pace into the expanded role of general contractor.
As its subcontracting sister company did with workmen, HCI assembled a team of experienced administrative experts committed to Harkins’ core values of integrity, aggressive scheduling, cost controls, and craftsmanship. As a result, HCI projects consistently come in on time and budget.
In 2004, Harkins again capitalized on its well-earned reputation for quality and reliability by opening its own concrete plant in Pittsville, Maryland. Harkins Ready Mix, Inc. has helped accelerate project schedules and control costs through direct control of this aspect of the construction process.
HCI is the winner of numerous Associated Builders and Contractors awards. Randy Swift, Vice President and Director of Operations said though he is proud of every project HCI has managed but is particularly pleased with their work on NASA's Wallops Launch Command Center.
